reading Fantasy book/series recommendations?

I love the Gentleman Bastards, especially Locke and Jean. Surprised that you are struggling as the world is vibrant and their friendship is a strong one. Try some of Raymond Feist's work. If you love books with strong friendship ties, you'll like Pug, Thomas, Arutha, Jimmy the Hand and the whole ConDoin family as well as all the later additions.
There's literally tons of reading in this series starting with the Riftwar Saga (the Riftwar Cycle contains 31 books), the Empire Trilogy, the Serpentwar Saga ...
The Darkness series by Harry Turtledove is always an escape for me, especially during the winter. It may not be what you are looking for but it is something a little different than all of these.
